What makes First Southern different? It’s simple. It’s our passion to serve.
Exceptional customer service is right up there at the top of our priority list. However, around here, our passion to serve stretches far beyond our ability to make loans and accept deposits.
To us, serving is serious business. And we are intentional about who we serve and how we do it. Ten percent of our pre-tax net income goes to the River Foundation, a private foundation established by First Southern for the purpose of giving to Christ-centered organizations. Through the River Foundation, we've been able to support local ministries as well as mission work in places like India and Africa. We hope to make a difference, not just here at home, but around the world.
Serving Our Team Serving Our Team | Serving Our Communities Serving Our Communities | Serving Beyond Our Boundaries Serving Beyond Our Boundaries
Our Team Members invest their time and effort in the success of our company and our customers every day. We feel that investing in each of them and their families is just as important.
Encouraging generosity. Giving is fun. And we want our Team Members to experience the joy that goes along with giving to others. First Southern Team Members have access to matching grant funds to boost their giving efforts to tax-exempt, faith-based charitable organizations whose policies and activities are consistent with those outlined by our Foundation.
Encouraging involvement. If one of our Team Members is passionate about a mission, we want to help him or her get involved. Whether it be serving in Appalachia or Africa, we grant paid time off for mission trips and we help cover associated expenses. We do the same for immediate family members, too, because we think serving together strengthens families.
Facilitating personal growth. We believe learning is a lifelong exercise. That’s why we provide an extensive library of resources and opportunities to our Team Members... life-skills and job-skills training, emerging leader projects, mentoring, coaching and accountability partners, and a team of chaplains available to care for the spiritual health and well-being of our team.
Teaching Financial Literacy. Back in our early years, some of our leaders completed a 12-week course on managing money according to Biblical financial principles. What they learned changed the way we do business, but more importantly, it changed them as individuals. Each Team Member has access and opportunity to participate in a financial principle study to help them personally and to help them help others.
Nurturing marriages and families. We celebrate husbands and wives who are working at healthy marriages and want to encourage them in every way we can. Our company is stronger because of healthy families and we seek ways for our Team Members strengthen theirs.
Serving our communities is about building relationships that are authentic, meaningful and true – staying true to who you are, where you came from and what you believe in. That is who we are and why we are so deeply involved in the communities we serve.
Teaching financial literacy and responsibility. Understanding and practicing sound financial principles is at the core of our business. We try to use our example, our influence and our resources to help others make wise financial decisions. That’s why you’ll see us in local schools and youth groups teaching our children to save and be responsible stewards of their money. We also feel privileged to offer personal financial and debt counseling to those who desire it.
Preserving our past. First Southern has its roots in Kentucky’s small towns and cities, and we’re investing in them every day. Part of our commitment to our communities is restoring our bank buildings back to their original look. Many of our buildings are right downtown, in places where you’ll find a soda fountain across the street and family-owned stores around the corner. Another great reason to stop by and see us!
Celebrating life, marriage and family. We celebrate life and actively partner with Pregnancy Resource Centers in our communities and throughout our state, in addition to partnering with organizations that help families realize the dream of expanding their family through adoption. Sharing resources for building healthy marriages and families in all of the communities that we serve is also something we strive to do.
Supporting our neighbors. We live and work where you live and work. Our communities are full of folks we’ve known for a lifetime – local business owners, local pastors, community and civic leaders – and we love nothing more than supporting them. We prefer to buy local. We encourage local pastors. We honor local veterans. We know that shopping, dining and banking local is good for all of us.
We realize that we are just a small part of a global community. We also realize that we can make a difference. We partner with ministries around the Commonwealth, Country and World that are laser-focused on issues that are close to our heart.
