Giving Thanks

When it comes to being a generous giver, the first thought for many is about the money they can give.

My daughter, Aaryn, and I just spent a week in October serving with SCORE International in the Dominican Republic - the photos below are a few of my favorites from our trip. This was my third trip to the D.R. and each time, I’m reminded of how much I have to give thanks for. I’m reminded that giving my time, investing my energy and sharing love with others is sometimes even more valuable than giving money.

Neatly Folded Flags

A neatly folded flag is displayed in a hand-made walnut frame in my office.  It is the flag that draped the casket of World War II veteran Paul A. McAlpin of Selmer, Tennessee, who lived to the ripe old age of 92.  I am proud to have custody of it for a while.  

Paul was my uncle by virtue of his marriage to my grandfather’s sister, and so he was not a blood relative.  But he was my favorite uncle.... Read More >
