Beware of The Parent Trap
Throughout my career as a lender I have seen countless young people make the same financial decisions that ultimately lead them into some tough times. If you are just starting out on your own, or know someone who is, do not fall into what I like to call The Parent Trap.
As we are raised by our parents, we become accustomed to the lifestyle that they afford us.
Cell phones. New clothing. Plenty of food. Reliable transportation. Things that are frequently taken for granted....
It's Christmas time…you are stopping by the grocery store to pick up the two things you meant to get yesterday. You can’t have a Christmas party without a cheeseball so you HAD to go again.
For the second time this week you throw your scarf around your neck and hop out of your car and then... you hear it.
The bell ringing.
You quickly take inventory in your mind…do I have any spare change in my pocket? Nope.
What about my wallet or purse?...
You Can't Save or Give What Is Already Spent
I received a phone call the other day from a young couple inquiring of me some strategic advice for funds they had received from selling a business. As their story unfolded, it became clear that they were looking for the same thing many of us look for – “balance” in our lives. They wanted to give, they wanted to save and they wanted to spend but didn’t really know where to start....
When it comes to being a generous giver, the first thought for many is about the money they can give.
My daughter, Aaryn, and I just spent a week in October serving with SCORE International in the Dominican Republic - the photos below are a few of my favorites from our trip. This was my third trip to the D.R. and each time, I’m reminded of how much I have to give thanks for. I’m reminded that giving my time, investing my energy and sharing love with others is sometimes even more valuable than giving money.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family....
Save to Give - Without Missing It
One of my passions is missions. I love to help others. I have always been the type of individual to tithe at church and give a donation here and there throughout the year, but I wanted to do more.
Last year I decided that in order to do more, I needed to be more intentional in my giving. What would that look like and how would I do it?...
